About APACitations
APACitations.com was built with a simple goal: make correct academic citations fast, free, and accessible to everyone.
Anyone who has written a research paper knows the frustration — you've done the reading, formed the argument, and then lose an evening wrestling with commas, italics, and hanging indents. Citation formatting is important (it protects academic honesty and helps readers find your sources), but it's also mechanical work that a well-built tool can do in seconds.
What we offer
Our citation generator supports the current editions of the four major academic styles — APA 7 (and 6), MLA 9, Chicago 17, and Harvard — across the most common source types: websites, books, journal articles, and online videos. You can autocite by pasting a URL, ISBN, or DOI, and every citation comes with its matching in-text form.
Alongside the tool, we publish free citation guides written in plain language and checked against the official style manuals, covering everything from basic website citations to annotated bibliographies.
Our principles
- Free means free. No accounts, no citation limits, no locked "premium" styles.
- Accuracy first. Formats follow the published manuals; when styles have local variations (like Harvard), we say so.
- Fast and light. The site loads quickly and works on any device, because deadlines don't wait.
A note on accuracy
Automated tools handle formatting rules, but source data can be messy — a missing author, a strange date. We always recommend a quick final read-through of your reference list against your institution's guidelines before submitting.
